An investment banking director holds a high level of responsibility with a bank's money. The investment banking director's job is to spend the bank's money in order to make more back on it. This involves investing in stocks or in venture capital, which means investing in a company and gaining part ownership of it, and a percentage of the profits from that company as a result. Investment banking directors oversee a team that does this, but they make the final decisions on all investments. Investment banking directors must be ready to accept failure. It is common in a job that is based on risk-taking. However, they must succeed more than fail, as is the case with just about any other job. The working environment is an office and in conference rooms. Investment banking directors work with common office supplies, graphs, charts, statistical software, computers, telephones, pens and paper. As directors, they are high up on the hierarchy of the business structure, so they report directly to general managers or presidents. Their work hours are normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Requirements for this job are usually a master's degree in finance. Some work their way up to the position with a bachelor's degree in finance if they are very successful as an investment banker. Several years of experience in investment banking is required.
