A key account representative position is one that requires a good amount of public relations. Key accounts, simply put, are a special group of clients that are responsible for a large chunk of the company's sales. In other words, these accounts are key to the flourishing of the company. Therefore, the clients holding these accounts are very valued customers. The key account representative is responsible to for developing customer relations, interacting with the customer, completing agreements, being a source of information, and making sure to resolve problems.
In addition to working with existing customers, a key account representative needs to handle newcomers just as efficiently. It is important that new key account holders be made aware of the various business improvements so that these customers grow to value their assets with the company. In that sense, key account representatives are the face of the company and should maintain public relations etiquette at all times.
Due to the nature of this position, some travelling might be required between different branches locally or nationally. Otherwise, the job results is a standard daytime office schedule. A bachelor's degree is preferred in business, social sciences, or a related field. Most importantly, a key account representative must enjoy working with people, be detail oriented, and have great problem solving skills in order to handle situations that arise effectively.
