Land acquisition analysts gather, compile and analyze information needed to complete research and financial analysis related to land under construction for purchase to develop residential communities. Additionally, they are responsible for preparing gathered information into reports, using research tools to assist in land and market evaluations, and assisting in land research They also visit competitor communities to gather information on pricing, site plans, and other key indicators, as well as prepare economic base and key economic indicator analysis and prepare assigned section of corporate approval package.
Communication skills are an important skill for land acquisition analysts, as these professionals are required to communicate regularly with executives, decision makers, and government personnel, among others. They also need to be able to use basic computer programs such as the Microsoft Office suite.
For land acquisition analyst positions, most companies require a bachelor's degree in finance, construction management, civil engineering, or another relevant field. They also generally need at least three to five years of relevant experience, as well as a strong understanding of acquisitions and/or development. Land acquisitions analysts should also have local real estate knowledge and be familiar with reimbursement agreements, purchase and sales contracts, entitlement issues, and other relevant topics.
