Law firm operations managers must have excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and the abilities to create and conduct presentations for teams and law partners; PowerPoint and Excel graphs are used often in business presentations.
In addition to working directly with law partners and managing daily operations, these managers are also involved in project management, case acquisition strategies, prospects research, personnel and human relations, and other client services. They are generally expected to oversee a variety of projects for their law firm to be successful, and they may also oversee lower-level managers or directly supervise staff within the firm.
These managers must be able to work well with a diverse staff and have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal. They must also be flexible outside of regular business hours to resolve any problems which may arise. They generally work in office environments, and travel requirements are minimal.
