This position requires working in the field - whether that be in a factory, outdoors, in an office setting, or in another environment - to evaluate manufacturing and detect what need improvement. Some key areas for analysis include safety, reducing waste, environmental issues, operational effectiveness, and quality and productivity measures. The lean facilitator must be innovative and objective as they develop ideas for improvement. Additionally, they may develop improvements to standard operating procedures and work to ensure that employees are adhering to guidelines.
This position usually requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in an engineering field and relevant experience. Lean facilitators must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a team setting as well as on their own with minimal supervision. Experience with lean manufacturing principles, industrial analysis, and organizational design may be required or preferred as well.
