The maintenance and repair technician will recognize and perform machine adjustments to pharmaceutical equipment, including doing preventive maintenance and making repairs. They should understand, follow, and maintain proper records for processing safety management procedures and requirements. They will determine corrective actions based on operational messages and alerts, as well as assist with installing, maintaining, testing, and validating new equipment. The maintenance repair technician must monitor and maintain equipment to ensure safe and optimal operating conditions at all times. They will participate in and oversee equipment changeovers as needed and notify management of any potential issues that may arise. Organization of the maintenance area should be observed.
Other duties may include assisting in training new employees. Maintenance repair technicians will work in production environments with pharmaceutical equipment and machines. Safety procedures and proper organization must be maintained in all areas at all times. Hours and shifts may vary, but being on call 24/7 may be required.
A high school diploma or GED is required, as well as a two-year college degree, relevant certifications, and training in machine maintenance and repair. A minimum of a year of experience is desired. Experience with hydraulics, compressors, mechanics, and troubleshooting is required, and experience with pharmaceutical equipment is a plus. Heavy lifting, climbing, and working in tight spaces are required. A Maintenance Skill Level Exam may be requested. The maintenance and repair technician must be able to communicate with other people regarding troubleshooting and repairs and be able to read technical manuals, blueprints, and various maintenance and repair documents.
