Another important thing is to keep track of a budget and to make sure that mall employees are using resources effectively. The services and supplies used in the mall may be chosen by the mall manager, so it is important to make wise financial decisions. The mall manager will usually work with leasing representatives to create leasing plans and incentives. The mall manager may also oversee a marketing team, which will create marketing schemes aimed at tenants and visitors. This includes involving retailers in sales and promotions, creating mall events and programs, and using social media to reach clients. The mall manager will work with a variety of people on a daily basis, so strong communication skills are important. Sometimes, it may be necessary to work with government entities to make sure that the necessary permits are in order.
Usually, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in something such as business, management, or marketing will be necessary. Since this is an advanced position, the mall manager will be expected to have many years of related experience in a position within the retail field.
