It is important to have strong knowledge of what is offered at the facility and how it compares to competing businesses, in order to be able to appeal to potential clients. Administrative duties, such as payroll, keeping finance records, and administering employee evaluations, are carried out by the manager. The manager may have to develop the mission and curriculum for the childcare center, which aids in the development of good physical, emotional, and mental health of the children that attend. In smaller childcare centers, the manager will also have childcare and teaching duties.
State certification relating to childcare directing may be required. Usually, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field is necessary. This job can be physically strenuous since it is often necessary to lead the children in exercises, and it may be required to stand and walk for a large majority of the shift. The ability to lift heavy items is often a physical requirement. Past experience within the childcare field is also necessary, since this is an advanced position.
