A wholesale manager is primarily responsible for supervising and coordinating all operations within a store. While the requirements for this position are generally dependent on the organization, at least 5-7 years of experience within the appropriate field and prior management experience are generally required. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. An advanced associate’s or bachelor’s degree is often recommended in a field such as retail management, business administration, merchandising, or marketing. A wholesale manager typically works within a store, and maintains an office as well. This person oversees a team of people and hours can vary dependent on the organization. Extended hours and overtime are generally expected in this position.
A wholesale manager has a variety of responsibilities and duties. While exact duties are dependent on individual organizations, a wholesale manager is typically responsible for hiring and training staff, evaluating personnel, preparing sales reports, preparing inventory data, preparing work schedules, coordinating sales promotions, analyzing records regarding sales territories and merchandise, determining pricing of products, and ordering stock. This person will often need to prioritize duties and multitask. A wholesale manager should be extremely proficient with computer skills, able to communicate effectively with staff and customers, and build networks with suppliers and customers. This position requires a person who is self-motivated and is able to guide, direct, and coach staff members. Quick decisionmaking skills are imperative, as well as the ability to process information clearly and effectively. This person should exhibit natural enthusiasm and leadership.
