Balance is important to success
As a Director of Marketing AND the mother of 3 boys it hasn't always been easy to balance both. I am responsible for managing marketing and our reservations department, so I have to be in the office more than other marketing positions. Once the departments were running smoothly I spoke with our CEO about working from home at least one day a week on a trial basis to see if my job improved or suffered. I can complete the same amount of work from home (often more without the office distractions) and get laundry and simple household chores completed on my breaks away from the phone and computer. I now have more quality time to spend with my boys in the evenings and I feel less rushed. With the current technology a large percentage of jobs can now be performed from home. Ultimately I am completing more work because I can focus on the projects at hand without interruptions and I am a much happier employee.
Beat the deadline!
When your boss gives you a deadline he/she expects you to put it in their hand without mistake before that day. The worse thing in the world is having to be asked "got that report?" and backpedaling. DON'T PROCRASTINATE.
