Marketing team leaders are responsible for leading and training employees within the marketing departments of organizations, as well as ensuring that the department operates within its established and approved budget. They must work closely with other managers within the company, especially production and sales managers, and they may also lead meetings among employees and supervisors.
With the human resources (HR) department, marketing team leaders are involved in firing, hiring, and interviewing new employees and must provide feedback and perform performance evaluation reviews in a timely manner. They should strive to improve working relationships with clients and vendors and must have extensive knowledge of the products or services being marketed, and prior supervisory or leadership experience is usually required for this position. They are typically responsible for developing and executing marketing campaigns online, such as social media or e-mail marketing, in addition to other conventional methods, and they must report on campaign results to management. They should also be able to analyze the effectiveness of their marketing and campaign performance, and some focus on targeted marketing programs is also necessary. They also work to raise awareness among potential customers or clients of the company's products or services using online or offline platforms.
A bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, or business administration is generally required for this position, and they are encouraged to read business journals to stay up-to-date and aware of competition and relevant new products in the marketplace at all times. Some travel may also be necessary in this position.
