Job Description for Mask Designer - Semiconductor

Mask designers for semiconductors work within a subset of electronic drafters; the term "mask" refers to a particular template which controls the formation of microchip layers during production. These designers are responsible for creating templates or stencils for microchip processors and other electronic components, and they typically work with incredibly tiny components requiring the use of computer-aided drafting tools (CAD) and other drafting methods. They typically work in a clean room wearing protective clothing which prevents microscopic particles from causing problems with microchip development, and they may also consult with clients and coworkers to determine the needs and program requirements of any particular circuit board.
