Meeting Planner Reviews

What is it like working as a Meeting Planner?

Meeting Planner in Boston:
Pros: It is extremely satisfying to see an event come together. I love that the work I do has an end goal, and a finish date. That can make it stressful, as there is no room to delay or push off a project, so you must have every detail work out or else everything could fall apart. At my organization in particular, we have a ton of work flexibility. The leadership and board of directors trusts their workers, and are extremely understanding about the lives we have outside of work. We also have a very talented and hardworking group of individuals for the most part.
Cons: Long hours, and very little pay. We take on too many projects. While we are good at decided to try new things, we don't know how to stop doing other things to free up space for innovation. And so, we just add things to an already overloaded plate. Staff here work long hours, and we have a very high turnover rate (40%). Every time someone leaves, the few who stay behind end up picking up their work and doing double. When people speak up about feeling overwhelmed, the answer is never to rethink our priorities and takes things off of our plates, but to just adjust due dates...or ignore the issue.
