Job Description for Minister, Youth & Music

A youth and music minister works in a church environment and leads services and activities relating to youth and music performance within the church. They usually lead sermons for youth, as well as Bible studies and other youth activities. The minister prepares material for sermons prior to presenting them, which includes carrying out research such as through reviewing relevant portions of the Bible; it may involve creating visual aids such as PowerPoint presentations as well. Sometimes, youth and music ministers provide one-on-one and group counseling to young people and their families. In terms of music, the minister may prepare music for church services, as well as attend - and possibly lead - church band and choir practices. They may also coordinate special events such as holiday gatherings, retreats and field trips.
