Multimedia designers are responsible for creating multimedia presentations and tools to educate and/or promote their company's brands, products, and services. They must meet with individuals within their company (and/or clients) to discuss needs, create a draft of the multimedia product, and produce the final work. These professionals may edit video footage into an attractive package; they may also be in charge of web design, including landing pages, for the company. Multimedia designers generally work full time in an office setting; they may be employed to produce multimedia products for a single company, or they may work for a firm (or independently) to serve multiple clients. Although multimedia designers often work during regular business hours, overtime may be required to meet deadlines.
Multimedia designers generally must have a minimum of 3 years' experience using the standard design programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects. They also need to possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent, although most companies prefer either a bachelor's degree or technical education. A strong multimedia portfolio is also necessary for applicants, as are excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
