A national account executive identifies sales opportunities throughout the country and helps achieve sales goals. Much of the communication with prospective clients will be done over the phone, but some travel throughout the country is usually required. The account executive will identify trends in the market and do research in order to obtain new accounts. Extensive knowledge of the competition is also important in order to develop new sales methods and offer products that the client needs. There may be minimum sales targets that need to be achieved. The account executive will use sales methods that are already established within the company. However, it is usually encouraged to develop sales strategies to correct flaws and adapt to different clients and changes within the marketplace. The account executive needs to have knowledge of the products being sold by the company in order to pitch sales and answer any questions that may arise.
