Getting What I Deserved
Office Manager, Medical Office - (City withheld for privacy), West Virginia, United States
At my last job the boss treated the "support staff" like we were dirt while "her therapists" were treated like gold. I started out making $9.00 per hour as an office manager. I supervised 3 employees and worked by myself. When it was time for my yearly evaluation the boss would only give 0.25 to 0.75 while she would give the therapists anywhere from $1.00 and up. One of the therapist had a better job offer with better pay and benefits. He told the boss about it and she countered offered. So I waited about 4-6 weeks and told the boss that I had another job offer making more money with better benefits. She countered offered and I got a huge increase in salary. She told me after 90 days she would recview my performance again and give me the additional 0.75. Well when that time came and I brought it up to her she said we needed to talk. She told me that my performance was not up to what it should be and I wasn't doing a good job anymore. She asked for my resignation. I refused. She said either resigned or be fired. I got fired. The next day her brother in law was in the position, he was out of work. He worked for her for two weeks and than walked on her. I worked for this monster for 17 months and received over $7000.00 in bonuses and salary increases. So my job must not have been that bad. But I did get what I wanted from her by telling her I had another job offer.
