Responsibilities of the position revolve around adjusting and repairing glasses as needed, as well as greeting customers and processing sales transactions. Optical sales associates are also responsible for contacting customers to notify them of transactions that may have an outstanding balance, as well as appointments or when their glasses are ready for pick-up. They also assist in monthly inventory counts, answering phone calls, and maintaining the inventory of items for sale.
Optical sales associates must be able to communicate well and provide quality customer service to all clientele. They should have preexisting knowledge of the production of glasses or be willing to learn these hand- and visually-coordinated tasks. A high school diploma is generally required for this position, and some employers may require these associates to have prior experience with Medflow EMR and MDoffice, as well as billing computer operating systems. It may also be required of prospective employees to be knowledgeable of how to operate optical lab equipment.
