Job Description for Patient Services Coordinator
Patient services coordinators perform a variety of tasks related to handling patients and any relevant paperwork. In their day-to-day work, the patient services coordinator is responsible for greeting, screening, and transporting patients to the scanning room. They are also in charge of handling the patient’s paperwork, as well as making sure the patient understands what each test does and when results will be available. Patient services coordinators also answer questions about exams, ensure patients are comfortable, and enter relevant patient information into the computer systems. Patient services coordinators typically work in a medical facility during regular business hours; however, depending on their company's hours of operation, they may work nights and weekends as well. These coordinators interact with a number of medical staff, including doctors, nurses, physicians, and other practitioners; extensive interaction with patients is required as well.
A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required for this position. Patient services coordinators must know basic medical terminology, and experience with medical records is generally preferred. Basic computer skills and an understanding basic phone etiquette are essential.
