A patient service specialist is also sometimes tasked with reminding patients of any upcoming lab visits they have. Therefore, having basic knowledge in medical terminology and possessing good interpersonal skills are requirements for this job position. Electronic medical records knowledge is also a must, and experience in this area is preferable. The patient service specialist must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to effectively solve problems. Maintaining friendly relationships with patients is important, in addition to maintaining good relationships with physicians, nurses, and other employees. Attention to detail is crucial to efficiently gather full information on patients in situations.
A bachelor's degree is generally preferred but not required for these positions, and relevant experience is needed or preferred as well.
