The Nursing/Health Care Education certificate is designed for health care and nursing professionals interested in pursuing careers in educational or service settings. Current educators can update or expand their knowledge in curriculum development, assessment and evaluation, and revitalize their teaching and learning strategies. Combining your current professional expertise with the knowledge of teaching and learning strategies, assessment and evaluation and curriculum, and program design will expand and enhance your role as a health care educator.

Content can be applied to patient teaching, continuing education or in-service education, community health education, as well as to the role and delivery of academic education. The certificate program is open to post baccalaureate students and these graduate level credits will also apply toward the completion of a graduate degree in Nursing. Coursework will provide a foundation of knowledge for the novice educator, as well as providing current faculty with new applications and practical skills.

The medical office management program provides a comprehensive education that focuses on helping students acquire knowledge and develop skills in administrative and clerical procedures. Be part of an expert team by working with patient medical records, medical documents, and other medical office matters. In addition to the online program, you will complete an unpaid externship in a physician's office or clinic. Graduates are eligible to take the Certified Medical Administrative Specialist (CMAS) test, given by the American Medical Technologists.†

Please note that students in the medical office management program are required to complete an unpaid externship for a total of 90 hours. Students must be able to accommodate the externship in their weekly schedules. Some sites may not allow students to complete the externship during the evening or on weekends, so it may be necessary to complete the requirements Monday through Friday during regular business hours. 

Students must complete all coursework, achieve a minimum grade of "C" or better in each major and core course, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to graduate.

†Although the program is designed to prepare students for various certification and licensing examinations, the University cannot guarantee students will pass the exams.

The concentration in Medical Coding and Billing combines a broad base of fundamental business courses and general education requirements with career-relevant coursework relating to the modern healthcare industry. This real-world AABA degree program includes three concentration courses:

• Introduction to Coding and Billing
• Fundamentals of Healthcare Technology
