This job revolves around still photography and does not usually involve shooting video. Some photographers work independently, so the ability to adhere to deadlines is essential. However, others collaborate with graphic designers and creative staff members of organizations, so teamwork skills are also beneficial.
Still photographers must be experienced with a variety of digital and film cameras and their basic and advanced functions. They may work with people of all ages, so it is important to be patient and friendly. Some jobs require still photographers to have completed a program of study relating to photography, while others rely on experience and a portfolio of previous work.
A great deal of experience may be necessary prior to obtaining secure employment as a still photographer, and completing an internship is also helpful. These photographers are often experienced with photo editing software such as Photoshop, as well. Photographers often work on a freelance basis, while others are employed at photo studios which offer consistent part-time or full-time employment. Some still photographers specialize in outdoor photography, which may subject them to uncomfortable weather conditions and lighting and other situations which may not be standard or optimal.
