A child psychiatrist works indoors, typically in a private practice or clinic. While their work is not physically demanding, it is mentally challenging. It requires the ability to always watch what is being said to make sure not to offend the child or his or her parents. The psychiatrist must also be able to target the root of the child's mental difficulties and determine what the best course of treatment is for the child and whether or not that course requires prescription medication. A psychiatrist often works alone, but they may need to interact with a psychologist, depending upon the severity of the case.
