Infectious disease physicians/doctors are responsible for treating patients with infectious diseases on behalf of their organization. They are in charge of providing excellent patient care, as well as providing solutions to infectious illnesses and helping stop them from spreading to other individuals. They must be able to effectively explain disease-related information and treatment options to patient and their families. Infectious disease doctors recognize, evaluate, and make recommendations to control and/or prevent the transmission of infections. Some of their main responsibilities include providing diagnoses, ordering tests as needed, and prescribing medicine as required.

Examine patients, order tests and analyze data to diagnose cause of illness; prescribe treatment.
Meet with patients to gather and review medical history.
Treat and protect against infectious diseases, especially antibiotic resistant organisms and infectious diseases contracted during international travel.
Prescribe measures to prevent contraction of infectious diseases, including vaccinating and counseling patients and family members on various prevention measures.
