Urgent care doctors work indoors in a health care setting to provide the best-possible care for patients and use their knowledge to diagnose any diseases or illnesses a patient may have. They use a variety of tools, ranging from stethoscopes and thermometers to sphygmomanometers and tongue depressors. This job requires a great deal of both physical and mental labor, as it is mostly done in long hours with little rest, and doctors must also have a great deal of knowledge of the health care world to diagnose patients and aid their recovery.
A doctorate degree is required for this position, and the projected job outlook is a 12% rise in the next ten years. Shifts can vary greatly, as urgent care doctors can be needed at any hour of the day, and some shifts may last up to twelve hours.
