A physician recruiter usually works for a recruiting agency. The recruiter helps to fill physician positions that are needed at a hospital or a medical office. Developing strategies relating to recruitment may necessary, as they can be used by the recruiting department. The recruiter may reach out to physicians and will create job listings.
Job applications will be reviewed, and qualified candidates will be called for the interview process. In some jobs, the recruiter is actually responsible for carrying out the interviews and for completing the hiring process. Job success may be measured by the performance of the physicians who were hired by the recruiter. Strong communication skills are necessary to communicate with applicants and others involved in the process. If an interested candidate is qualified but not quite suitable for a certain job, the recruiter may try to place the physician in a different position that is available. The recruiter may be given a budget, so that things such as marketing materials and travel expenses can be covered.
The recruiter should have a strong knowledge of the hospitals involved and the general environment of the area being served, in order to be able to answer candidates’ questions. Usually, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field is necessary. Knowledge of health terms will also come in handy. This degree may relate to sales, marketing, or human resources. Some jobs may require a master’s degree.
