Plant pathologists may work with advanced equipment, such as microscopes, to study bacteria, algae, etc. that occur on a plant, as well as analyze these plants, research environmental factors such as weather and soil, and study plants' genetics to help them grow. Plant pathologists also work outside the lab to study natural resources using instruments which trap spores, and they often work in small teams with other plant pathologists to work toward common goals.
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is generally required for this position, and some employers may prefer those who have a master's degree. Hours in this position can vary greatly, as well.
