Plumbing Engineer Advice

Q: What do you wish you knew about your job when you first started out?

Plumbing Engineer in Blue Bell:
`"$Time/Budget Management."`
Discuss with your head of plumbing design how budgets are set by project managers and work with them to ensure that you don't go over budget.

Plumbing Engineer in Columbus:
`"$Don't doubt your own abilities."`
Very few people know what they're doing as much as they would have you believe. Ask questions and don't apologize for it. Most people want to share their knowledge with you. Those who resist sharing knowledge are people to avoid anyway. Plumbing is an empirical science, particularly where codes are concerned. There are few black and white, straightforward calculations. There are a lot of variables related to the diversity of demand for most plumbing systems, and thus experience is required to be a good designer. Don't be afraid of failure as long as you do your due diligence and ask questions.
