The position of a positron emission tomography technologist requires a great deal of expertise in the radiology field. The responsibilities of a positron emission tomography technologist include research and the performance of procedures utilizing a positron emission machine. The positron emission tomography technologist works closely with patients, as they seek a diagnosis or treatment for an ailment or condition. A positron emission tomography technologist should therefore have the ability to be empathetic, they are occasionally delivering undesirable news to a patient. In addition, strong communication skills are essential. Moreover, excellent problem-solving skills are important, as it is essential to have the ability to analyze the patient's scan and develop an accurate diagnosis.

  • Perform complex PET exams and transmission scans, consulting with Radiologist for appropriate scan procedure.
  • Review and evaluate computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.

  • Monitor patients' conditions and reactions during scan, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
