Electricity is considered the lifeblood of the modern world, as virtually everything in today's world requires a steady, reliable flow of energy distributed across vast networks, some of which serve millions of people. A vital component of a functional energy grid is ensuring that energy is being distributed properly, and power plants employ distributors and dispatchers for this purpose.
Electricity takes a long, sometimes circuitous route from the generating source to the homes and businesses which use it, and these power distributors are responsible for maintaining control over its flow and path. They monitor the various circuits, transformers, and lines to ensure transmission integrity, and when flow is disrupted, the distributor must coordinate with mobile repair teams to dispatch them to the problem and ensure that it is repaired. They also work to establish control around emergency areas, such as live fallen lines, to make sure the area is contained and that the line doesn't pose a danger.
Power distributors may also be tasked with issues at the point of generation, as well as coordinating maintenance of lines, poles, and transformers in order to prevent accidents and failures from occurring. Power distributors and dispatchers can be employed with just a high school diploma and trained on the job, but it is more common for employers to seek applicants with a college degree in engineering or mathematics, and some employers also prefer those who have prior experience in the field.
