Semiconductor process engineers improve efficiency and quality within the manufacturing field, which often involves developing new technologies for an assembly line which deals with creating semiconductors for electric circuitry.
Process engineers are present at various stages of production, from the design stage to building and launching. Prior to launching a product, it must be tested through prototype processes; however, at the beginning of the process, feasibility and capability tests should also be carried out using statistical methods. After the design has been launched, it is important to monitor it continuously to ensure that it is working well; when design and process flaws are noted, they should then be corrected.
These process engineers also create appropriate manuals and instructions to assist those in the production line. They may be expected not only to help improve processes, but also develop designs for new products. They may be given budgets which must be met, and it is important to produce cost-effective designs while maintaining quality. The abilities to troubleshoot and solve problems are also important in this position.
Communication skills are important for process engineers to work well on a team and bring together aspects of separate projects. A bachelor’s degree in engineering is generally required for this position, and familiarity with AutoCAD and similar programs may also be required. Knowledge of designs and processes within the particular field of employment is essential, as well.
