Job Description for Product Design Engineer

Product design engineers are responsible for all aspects of the creation and development of new products, as well as the maintenance and updating of current product lines. Using client requirements and established industry practices, they design and develop new products. This process involves several stages. First, ideas are generated and a prototype is created. Then feedback is generated from other engineers and the client, and further development occurs. Once an acceptable final design of the product is developed, product design engineers are responsible for creating all necessary documentation related to the use of and specifications for the product; this documentation is extremely important for proper use and safety concerns. In addition to creating new products, they also maintain current product lines by suggesting and implementing improvements to designs and manufacturing processes. In all of their design capacities, product design engineers are responsible for meeting established safety regulations of their company, industry, and government.

Product Design Engineer Reviews

What is it like working as a Product Design Engineer?

Product Design Engineer in Elkhorn:
"It's A Job."
Pros: I get to design and play with amazing software. I have direct and critical commentary on what we can run, how we're going to manufacture the part and finally how to inspect the part. My boss is amazing with providing immediate direct feedback regarding jobs I'm working on.
Cons: Communication and accountability as a whole (both for good things and bad) is absolutely horrible. There's a large "it's your problem, I don't care" attitude taking hold and it's affecting everyone's performance and stress levels (detrimentally). As a result, work loads have been dramatically uneven and unbalanced.
