Duties of a product design manager include hiring and supervising staff, implementing appropriate staff training, and assessing the accuracy of work produced by their work group. Product design managers spend a great deal of the work day coordinating with other teams on projects and directing general operations, product testing, and quality assurance. Product design managers generally work full time in an office setting, with occasional trips to industrial work sites to directly oversee construction. Product design managers work with - and oversee - a group of designers, but they may also coordinate with managers from other departments such as production and marketing. Product design managers are hired by many different kinds of firms, although the majority of product design managers work in manufacturing and architectural engineering.
