Product management managers are in charge of managing all aspects of product management processes for their company. They are responsible for defining product roles, supporting different markets with product lines, evaluating new opportunities, and participating in the product research process. Product management managers must actively communicate information with other team members and create detailed product updates, as well as keep accurate product management records. Additionally, these managers communicate with external vendors, create strong business relationships with product partners, and document capabilities of existing products to compare and review requirements for future products.
Product management managers analyze competitors' products to introduce and improve features to their company's offerings. Product management managers also actively participate with cross-functional teams to develop specifications and form a more coherent product concept. They participate in product development meetings and contribute ideas for product modifications. In addition, they oversee product evaluations and create reports based on technical data.
A bachelor's degree in business, management, or a related field is required for this job. In addition, previous experience - including in a managerial capacity - is needed; industry and leadership certifications may be beneficial. Product management managers must be organized individuals with strong analytical skills that possess excellent interpersonal skills to lead a group of professionals to achieve company goals in a timely manner. They also need to be proficient with basic computer software such as the Microsoft Office suite.
