Product marketing specialists must thoroughly familiarize themselves with the goods they work with, as well as work closely with design and development teams to understand the intent, value, and usage of the product. The specialist may have market research data at their disposal, or they may have to commission it. Using these tools, the specialist then designs a marketing plan that involves media to be used to present the product, as well as approaches and sales initiatives to keep individuals working to sell it on the message. They may work with branding teams to adjust messaging as needed, and they use market research data to assess the best outlets in which to reach the product's target consumers
To work as a product marketing specialist, a person must typically have at least a bachelor's degree in marketing or advertising. Many companies hire individuals with practical experience at a junior level in marketing or as part of a marketing team for this position. The product marketing specialist typically works in an office environment during regular business hours.
