A production supervisor in poultry processing involves working at a facility that butchers, separates, organizes, packages, and ships poultry to various distributors. Your job will be to oversee each operation of the facility to ensure that it is maximizing efficiency and productivity. You will coordinate with different heads of each operation in order to make that happen. You will also be responsible for making sure that the quality control is being implemented and that the company is putting out the best poultry product possible.
Qualifications are more experiential and less educational. Management experience is a must. You must be able to oversee and coordinate with a variety of people. Next, experience working in the poultry business is a big plus. Knowing all the "lingo", in addition to various contacts in the industry, will help greatly. You must also have experience with current FDA laws and regulations, in order to maintain a facility in full compliance. Finally, a strong attention to detail is very beneficial, as you will be balancing many things and need to ensure that all of them are running properly.
Oftentimes, poultry processing operates twenty-four hours a day, but you will work typical business hours unless an emergency occurs. Being a production supervisor can be a very rewarding job for the right person who loves coordinating productions, has strong attention to detail, and enjoys working with other people.
