Quality assurance coordinators work in a variety of industries to ensure that their company's quality-assurance standards and procedures are met. They review standards, policies, and procedures, as well as carry out programs to evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs. They may also write new standards and procedures.
Most quality assurance coordinators work in a business setting during regular business hours. Depending on the industry, their work may consist of reviewing data over the computer, listening to representative phone calls, overseeing production and manufacturing, and performing tests. They may also participate in creating training manuals, quality guidelines, and workflow diagrams.
Quality assurance coordinators may work closely with many other departments within the company. Often, they work closely with human resources to develop training and support for employees. They also may work with management to provide information for coaching and development. Upper management relies on their reporting to determine trending and forecasting. They may also work closely with the information technology (IT) team to report issues and define solutions that increase business effectiveness.
Most quality assurance coordinators are required to have a bachelor’s degree in a field related to their business' industry, as well as experience in the field and an extensive knowledge of the standards of the company. They must also demonstrate excellent abilities in both written and verbal communication, as well as project management skills. Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software is also often required, as the job requires an ongoing tracking of data, as well as interpretation and report writing.
