The position of a radio tower & radar technician involves a high level of danger, so those who wish to work in the field should be prepared for such situations, as well as working with dangerous equipment. These technicians are highly skilled in the installation and repair of telecommunication lines and equipment to help maintain the continuous flow of information through communication lines.
A high school diploma and on-the-job training are minimum requirements for this position, and some employers may prefer applicants who have at least an associate's degree in electronics, engineering, or a related field. Applicants should also have high mechanical aptitude and training and certification in tower safety which meets requirements established by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration). Ongoing education is highly encouraged for radio tower & radar technicians to stay up-to-date with all technological changes in the field.
