These directors have a variety of duties, including both technical and administrative affairs, and must provide vision, direction, and motivation to help other staff members excel in their work; they may also be in charge of scouting, interviewing, hiring, and scheduling new staff. In imaging departments, images of body parts and functions must be captured in order to diagnose illnesses, and it is important that these directors ensure that all aspects of the department are operating efficiently and in compliance with company policies and all state and national laws.
The abilities to multitask and work well under pressure are important for this position, and strong customer service skills are also helpful to work well with patients and answer all questions and concerns. These directors are employed primarily at hospitals, clinics, and in private practice. Shifts may be at any time of the day or night and are usually eight hours long; however, some shifts may be longer depending on the employer.
Radiology/Diagnostic Imaging Director Tasks
- Assure services are in compliance with professional standards, state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Oversee, plan and direct the diagnostic imaging program.
- Oversee staff operations, business planning and budget development.
- Oversee inventory, order processing and distribution of products and services.
- Plan and direct the radiology department overall operation to ensure quality patient safety and care.
