A retail cashier operates a cash register at a retail store. Under the supervision of a store manager, a retail cashier will provide customer service to customers by completing all assigned tasks with great attention to detail and timeliness. This individual might have the responsibility of promoting company programs, including loyalty participation, warranty sales, and credit card enrollment. Therefore, this person may need to maintain awareness of current promotions and advertisements. The responsibilities of this position can include greeting patrons, answering phone calls, following policies and procedures, researching special-order products, and stocking different goods. This position usually requires a high school degree. However, these cashiers are sometimes high school students. Other employers prefer candidates with a bachelor’s degree.
