what makes me uneasy
Retail Store Assistant Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Kentucky, United States
I have been employeed at jewelers for 18 years

14 years a have been assistant manager. 1 year I was store manager. I have enjoyed all years of my job until about 4 years ago when we got a new store manager. He is not fair and does not lead a good example for his employees. We just recently got a new District Manager. He immediatly took a dislike to me and has made it obvious with his crued comments to me. They are encouraging me to step down my position. I make "too much money". I have always exceeded my sales goal. The last year and half it has been a little difficult to be over 100% of sales goal, being a care giver for for my mother and being there thru her death was a little bit of a set back. (not looking for excuses) It is shameful that we are trained to have passion and love, when I feel none has been given to me during such a difficult time.

Provide the employer with strong points on why you are there for the job. Do the research. Show no fear or hesitation and ask for a fair wage.

Tell them that you got offered another job with a higher pay and ask if they could match the offer because you enjoy working for the company.

Length of Job
Retail Store Assistant Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Florida, United States
I have stayed with this company from the start. Working my way up the ladder and on my way to management soon. I started at 9 dollars an hour, and now am at 13 dollars an hour plus bonuses and overtime which I get 8 hours of o.t. every week. I have found that the longer I stay in my position and perform well or above standards, my pay rate increases each year as well as my stature within the company. It's when I jumped from job to job that my pay structure decreased. You may not be making much at first, but I have found that the longer you stay with a company, the more value you have to that company.

Never get sick and trust other employees
Retail Store Assistant Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Michigan, United States
I had pneumonia and called my asst. in the middle of the night to report my 103* temperature and to make certain he would cover my 11am shift on a Sunday morning.... not only did he not answer (no big deal, figured he was out as usual) he never showed to cover for me. My regional manager called me at 11:30 am and ordered me to come in regardless. I did arrive by noon, worked all day in publice very ill and with a high fever, then was required to attend a mandatory staff meeting at 7pm and was fired the next morning for opening the store late... I think I got ripped off BIG TIME. I am now on a NO re-hire list and can never use them as a reference so therefore 2 years of my life has disappeared.
