Those in this position make many important analytical decisions based on the needs of their organizations, which requires a strong background in reading finances and understanding proper revenue recognition in accordance with general accounting and finance procedures. Generally, a revenue director’s duties include creating revenue reports, reviewing contracts, investment allocation, reconciling financial statements, and ensuring all revenue is recognized and allocated properly.
This position is mentally demanding and often requires long hours of analyzing financial data. A bachelor’s degree in accounting and extensive work experience are generally required for this position, and some employers may prefer candidates with high-level education such as a master's or doctorate degree. Revenue directors must also have vast knowledge and experience with computer software and systems, as they will be responsible for reports and analytical data which involve the recognition of revenue.
