A sales consultant in event management offers various event packages to customers and may work with businesses to help develop events such as trade shows, conventions, or gatherings for employee morale. These consultants determine clients' needs, the types of budgets they have, and recommend various aspects of events such as location, housing, catering, and entertainment.
Those in this position may work in teams to bring events to life or, may be directly in charge of organizing such events. They may develop event packages which can be easily replicated and sold to customers as needed, but should also be flexible when customers have special needs. Sales consultants may work with marketing teams to develop marketing strategies and pamphlets and other documents to promote the company or particular events being held. There may be minimum sales goals to be met, and commission may be offered based on the profits of the events.
Generally, a bachelor’s degree in marketing is necessary for this position. Some positions may require experience in the field, while others will offer training. Travel to meet with clients is often needed, so a valid driver’s license will be necessary.
