Sales consultants for medical sales serve as intermediaries between pharmaceutical/biotech companies and practicing physicians/hospitals, and their job is to execute marking strategies and bring medicines and drugs to those who dispense them. They often travel from place to place to inform physicians and managers who may not know of their products or their benefits. A bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field is highly beneficial for candidates for this position, and basic knowledge of how medications work is absolutely necessary. Strong social and interpersonal skills are also beneficial, as much of the job focuses on confirming sales and building relationships, which is crucial in developing a network and closing sales.
Those in this position work directly with physicians and other sales consultants. Although travel is common, most medical sales consultants work during traditional weekly business hours.
