A sales support engineer is responsible for providing a high level of support to a large customer base. They diagnose, track, replicate and solve problems related to client-side technology solutions. Communication skills and customer service experience are vital, as sales support engineers must constantly be in touch with clients who need assistance in implementing technology solutions. A sales support engineer spends most of their time indoors, working on both the computer and phone to troubleshoot problems and contact clients. Sales support engineers work with many other employees in the workplace. For example, they must coordinate with the sales team to make sure that salespeople understand common technical problems associated with the software. They must work with software developers to gain a better understanding of the product, and they must keep in constant communication with the client (who is often a member of the business community versus a typical consumer).
A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is generally required for this position, and related experience may be required or preferred.
