A sales support supervisor is a position that is held in many types of environments. This supervisor is primarily responsible for managing the daily activities of the operational sales team. This position can be found in nearly any environment which sells goods or services. These industries can be automotive, telecommunication, construction, utilities, hospitality, insurance, or pharmaceutical. This is a position which does not always require formal education, other than a high school diploma. However, special consideration is typically given to persons who have attained an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in a related field. A sales support supervisor typically needs at least 3 years of experience within their area. This position will generally keep daytime, weekday hours. Depending on the environment, extended hours may be required.
In addition to the supervisory role, a sales support supervisor will often also work within the company to sell products and services. A sales support supervisor will have a variety of responsibilities, including managing the operational sales support team, overseeing the entire business process, preparing reports for the sales department, analyzing data regarding company sales, tracking orders to completion, assistance with the budget, setting sales goals, assisting with the hiring of sales support, handling customer requests, implementing promotional events, leading and directing the work of the sales support team, and handling the general day to day needs of the sales team. This position requires a person with a naturally optimistic and friendly attitude and someone who is highly organized. A sales support supervisor should exhibit natural leadership skills, critical thinking skills, and expert communication skills.
