Job Description for Senior Account Executive

Senior account executives are typically responsible for sales and marketing projects. They are expected to achieve sales targets by acquiring new clients or accounts, as well as identify opportunities for marketing to prospective clients. Senior account executives also develop proposals for new clients and oversee the process of establishing new contracts.
Senior account executives typically are expected to have at least five years of prior experience in their field. Many hold bachelor’s degrees in communications, marketing, or a related field; master’s degrees are often preferred by companies looking to hire. When a senior account executive’s main target is marketing, they are required to have experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods. Since sales and new client relations are often the goal of a senior account executive, many corporations look to candidates with extensive industry contacts. They typically also need advanced skills in the areas of marketing, sales, and business.
Another typical expectation in this role is travel. Senior account executives often travel to meet with prospective clients or catch up with old clients. Senior account executives must maintain superior communication and relations with a company’s clients. They are responsible for constantly being on the lookout for new clients, but they must also stay focused on building and maintaining the professional relationships with clients they have already landed. Since senior account executives are often experienced and knowledgeable in their industry, they may occasionally take on the role of a mentor to an account executive.
