Senior finance analysts provide support and guidance related to analyzing different financial metrics. Along with conducting financial analysis, these senior staff prepare budgets, perform dynamic forecasting, and provide an analysis of new products and corporate results. They generally work in all areas of the company, as they help with planning and decision-making related to finances for products, sales, and all other areas of the company.
This job requires the ability to learn and adapt as the different areas of the company demand the analyst's attention. While working with these departments, senior finance analysts must be able to analyze and provide information to the company in an effective and timely manner. They must prepare and present reports, so the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences is important.
The most important qualifications for senior finance analysts are knowledge of finance and accounting, strong attention to detail, and excellent analysis skills. It is also expected that the candidate for this position possess a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.), and/or Certified Management Accountant (C.M.A.) designation. Experience in financial or business analysis is expected, generally a minimum of five years. Knowledge of basic office software such as the Microsoft Office suite is also expected.
