Marketing is an important part of this job, as senior energy consultants must educate customers about how they can benefit from their products. There may be minimum sales goals to be achieved, and commission is offered based on those sales. These consultants will have to follow leads and may have to find and contact new customers, which may involve some cold-calling. They should should have extensive knowledge of all systems related to the technology offered in order to determine the products which may be most beneficial to customers.
Senior energy consultants should have strong customer service skills in order to foster relationships with customers and build their loyalty. It is also important to stay up-to-date with all developments in the field in order to offer new products and research findings to customers.
Because this is a senior position, experience within the sales field will have to be shown. The work may involve training other employees, so public speaking skills are beneficial. Travel to meet with clients is often necessary, so a valid driver’s license is usually needed, and hours may need to be flexible in order to adhere to customers' schedules.
