What do you wish you knew about your job when you first started out?
Senior Grant Writer in Lubbock:
"Minimal Coworkers and Additional Duties."
Grant writers are only as good as the information they can gather. When I began this job, I found myself struggling to get information from faculty and staff about their funding needs. When I brought up opportunities for funding, they were immediately shot down. Instead, faculty and staff brought me random tasks that they didn't want to complete themselves. None of them were related to grants, funding or event writing. Most of them were tasks that required no cognitive resources to complete. Had I known that I would be completing menial tasks, I would not have accepted the job.
